You Don't Have to Earn Rest

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to treat rest like something we had to earn.

Finish the work. Handle the responsibilities. Answer the messages. Take care of everyone else. Then, if there’s anything left, maybe you can sit down.

But what if rest isn’t the reward?

What if it’s part of how we take care of ourselves while life is still happening?

Resetting doesn’t always mean disappearing for a weekend, changing your entire routine, or starting over. Sometimes it’s much smaller than that.

It can be sitting in your car for five quiet minutes before walking inside. Lighting a candle after a long day. Putting your phone down while you drink your coffee. Saying, “That can wait until tomorrow,” and actually meaning it.

A reset is simply permission to interrupt the pace you’ve been keeping.

Not because you’re giving up.

Because you’re paying attention.

There will always be something else that needs to be done. Another responsibility. Another goal. Another person who needs something.

Your peace cannot constantly be scheduled for later.

Make room for it now, even if the room is small.

A moment to reflect:

Where in your life could you give yourself permission to pause before you reach exhaustion?
